I’ve always wanted to be a doctor, I spent a year on medical entrance coaching as well. But my lazy mind wouldn’t want to indulge in organic chemistry. And here I am, pursing something that I’ve always done in my free time. And not far is the time when my hobby will turn into my profession. Our profession is soon going to take us on a roller Coster ride. It is going to take away our sleeps.
There will be tension, hectic schedules, overload of work but at the end of the day, indeed a smile of gratitude for providing us our daily bread. Not many people are happy with what they do, given a chance they’d change it. But we the young generation still have a greater chance than them in understanding our needs and capabilities and deciding a field of profession of our interest.
I believe most of us are likely to pursue a career that gives us satisfaction and happiness.. It’ll be one of the prime factors that will give the meaning to our existence. In a way if we think a bit deeper, since toddlers we’ve been asked what we’d want to be in future. And am sure we’ve all changed our answers a trillion times, confused ourself.
So let’s know from a few people about their profession and what they like the most about it.
“One expression that we all take for granted is Smile. As seen as a nonverbal social gesture when people see each other, we (or at least me) never really cared how beautiful it was making our day, until one day you do not see that person smiling. And it is then you realise that, smile has become a part of your life. My love for psychology all began with a “No smile”.

It was during my MSc days, we had to go to clinic and see cases. There was this boy, who came for sessions. First day of session, he came early, he was waiting in the lobby, I smiled at him, because I knew this was the potential case I have been assigned. But alas, he did not smile back. It really felt awkward (NB: do try and see, the range of emotions that sweep you off, when you smile, and you don’t get a reciprocated one). He was quiet during the session. It really took some time for him, to be able to open up himself. As sessions progressed, it was the same, he never smiled back to me. This really gave me a experiential view as how depressive ‘Depression’ really looks like. So, I too decided never to give up that smile, even if it is not reciprocated, because depression was masking him from everything that he would have earlier felt ‘exciting and dynamic’. However, having a smile on autopilot mode, I couldn’t stop smiling. After few more sessions, he was improving. And one day, I was entering the lobby, I just looked at him, and lo he SMILED. This made my day; I was happier than ever. I know this sounds very normal. But it wasn’t for me. This one person, who had a blank face in session – one has improved so much after therapy that he started smiling and be ‘all him’ that he was prior to onset of this dark cloud. It was the time when all the dark clouds moved, and the sun shined for him again. That smile made me realise, how beautiful this profession was. Being able to help your client carve a beautiful smile, makes you feel all good and satisfied. This was when the quote of Paul Valery, really struck on me “the purpose of psychology is to give us a completely different idea of the things we know best.” We all know but we don’t really understand!!- Arya
I’ve always aspired to be a graduate in law ever since my 10th grade. The interesting fact was, I never asked myself a question as to ‘why law’ back then. Probably all the stories of successful and established lawyers inspired me to take up the profession.Being a first generation lawyer, it’s only after I got into a law school that I got an idea as to how this field works. To be honest, it is a very challenging, competitive and interesting area. And law isn’t always about civil and criminal matters. There are wide variety of issues and matters that are coming up. It includes, human rights, constitutional matters, tax matters, IP matters, maritime matters and the list goes on. Being in my final year of graduation, I’ve made up my mind to pursue litigation after college.Fingers crossed. Let’s see what happens.

And as to why I’ve opted to choose litigation is solely because of my internship experiences. So as a part of my course structure, I’ve to undergo a compulsory internship for a period of 15 days. Internships gives you learning experiences which a classroom education does not provide for. During my internship at High Court of Kerala and Madras High Court, I was completely influenced by the way in which a Senior Counsel argues and handles a case.”- Kavya
We need to fall in love with what we do to bring the best out of ourselves. Our work is soon going to take over the major part of our life but do not stress. Only when we worship our profession, share a relationship with it, we’ll be surrounded with peaceful aura in and around us.
What a deep paragraph at the end.
Immense strength in words.
If only more could feel the burning desire to follow their passion.
Great work.

Passion is a word that does not exist from where I come. And when it comes into existence it looses its original form and is merely a word to say but not felt within.
