Let the Passion drive (Part-2)

Dreams!! Who doesn’t dream? We all have grown up dreaming about various things we would want to do in our future. Some of us wanted to fly, some wanted to be heroes and some wanted to be kings and queens to conquer the world. Our answers have changed over and over again. But there are very few people who have been consistent with their dreams and the profession they want to get into and are successfully flying towards it.

“I have always had a dream of wearing the white coat, probably since childhood…Most of the kids in their childhood would say that they want to be a doctor, but my case here was a little different.. Everyone around me thought it was a just kid’s fancy dream because it was hard for them to percieve the idea of a girl from a malabari muslim family being a doctor, especially for a girl from a village where girls get married or engaged at the young age of 18. Then obviously even the thought of studying a professional course which needs a high time investment was a big deal for them. Most of the girls from my neighborhood were dropouts from their schools or junior college levels, or they might have studied some course till their marriage. I remember the response I received whenever I shared my dream with my friends, they would be shocked and asked me silly questions to which I laughed out. They would lecture me on getting married and said to be able concieve babies was more important. I do not blame them because this was induced in as higher priority in their heads from childhood. Luckily, things were quite different at my house, where everyone had their space and voice. My parents had this wish of putting one of their kids into this noble profession. And I always believed that I was born to fullfill this dream.

So if you ask me the reason to why I wanted to be in a white coat, I’d say the respect you see people around you giving to your doctor uncle, the peace and calmness of a hospital environment where a doctor is treated like a king, all of these got added up in a childs mind.People learn from different things and opportunities from different periods throughout their life time and finally they end up in a character and space where they belong. One thing that didn’t change over time was my desire to be a doctor.Being a stubborn and easily distractible person, my family had doubts about sending me to this profession, because the amount of money and time involved was huge.

I remember the time when my dad asked me about the same and my reply was simple “I would be the happiest person in the world if you spend money on my education than on a big fat Indian wedding. He surely was satisfied with my answer. And I was sent to be a part of this profession.Things took a you turn from there. The life inside a medical school is very much different from what you think from outside or how it is shown in movies.

Your life changes the moment you enter here. You never study things just to pass in the exams, anything and everything you study will take you to your grave. You will have to study about thousands of diseases and you find ways to differentiate each with specific signs and symptoms in real living people like you and me. YOU WILL REALISE THE FACT THAT THE CHAPTER YOU ARE READING NOW IS GOING TO SAVE SOMEONES LIFE TOMMOROW. You can feel other peoples pain and you will be haunted by fact that your mistake can cost a persons life. You mess up at times, but you wont quit. These five and half years of sleepless nights, overtime postings, recordworks, disrespect from your faculties, and all kind of slave works pay off. They pay off the moment you see your coma patient opening his eyes, when you see the smile on your patient’s face, when you see the very first moments of a mother holding her newborn, when you share the good news of the surgery to their loved ones, the happiness on their face, THE MOMENT THEY THANK YOU, BEFORE GOD-You live for these moments. These moments where u are the sole reason behind someones happiness. You know the glow in their eyes is because of you. There are times you literally save a life. There are times you have the ability to change somones life, you become someones HOPE, you become someones HERO.

And it does not end here, You will be the lady doctor your friends would trust their pregnancies and babies with. You give them a reason to think about making changes in their story. And You live your life the most happiest way. “

Not everyone has the ability to live their dream? Wrong!!! Is it high time to stop dreaming , to not try towards achieving your goal? Ofcourse not. It’s never late to dream and to live the dream. It’s in our hands as to what we want to make out of our life. And hardships and struggles are part of our victory.

  1. And that my friend is I called clarity of thought and execution.

We need more of such stories and people who believe in their capabilities, thoughts and execute to come close to their dreams.

Being a doctor is the finest of human abilities. Nothing comes closest to it in human endeavours at emotional level.

    Absolutely inspired.

My thoughts on how education should be. And your thoughts add some more light to life.
